About Your Therapist.

Meet Sophie Capern!

I am a registered psychologist based in Naarm, Melbourne who is passionate about providing a safe and open space that encourages genuine self-expression, exploration and transformation. My theraputic approach prioritises warmth and non-judgement as I believe an honest and authentic therapeutic relationship is key to creating meaningful and lasting change.

My approach considers the individual ecologically, acknowledging the profound influence our environments, relationships, culture and society have on our individual mental health and wellbeing. Inclusivity is at the heart of my practice; SLC Psychology proudly provides trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, neuro-affirming, sex-positive (including support for sex workers), and LGBTQIA+ affirming care.

I have experience working with a diverse range of presenting concerns as a psychologist in both community and private practice settings; providing individual therapy, practising group facilitation, and conducting psychological research. Beyond SLC Psychology, I work in a sexual health and intimacy psychology clinic and as a sessional university lecturer, teaching postgraduate counselling subjects with a focus on lifespan development, diversity and trauma.
